Birch Creek Residency Program

Birch Creek Ranch is located on 80 acres of Pinon-Juniper forest near Spring City, Utah and only six miles from the CUAC, one of Utah's leading venues for contemporary art. The location provides a beautiful, rural setting in a high-altitude valley and provides access to mountain bike riding, horse riding, rock climbing at world famous Maple Canyon, and lots of hiking. Sanpete Valley has a population of about 20,000 people, most of whom work for Snow College or are turkey or sheep ranchers.
view from residency
Birch Creek residency program offers artists of all types the opportunity to focus on their work and connect with the local community. There is no fee associated with the residency, though artists are expected to participate in occasional workshops or lectures in which they can promote their own work as well as the residency program. Artists are also
on way to residency
responsible for their own food, materials, and transportation to and from the ranch.
Artists will enjoy individual living space in our bunk-houses made from shipping containers or our main, straw bale building. Artists will also find common space and a kitchen and laundry facilities in the main building. Because there is such a variety of media and working methods, studio space is flexible and will be worked out with each artist, in some cases having private studio space, and in others, shared space.
Residents stay for one-month periods, though there is no limit to the number of months an artist may apply for in one year. In some cases, if an artist wishes to stay multiple months, a fee may apply for any time after the first month.

Mission

Birch Creek Residency holds the belief that the intersection of contemporary art, community engagement, and place provides professional growth, education, and contributes to the general wellbeing of the community. Because of this, BCR seeks to become a leader in contemporary art in Utah by providing a platform for dialog about contemporary art between resident artists and the Utah community through workshops, lectures, and exhibitions, and by providing living and studio space to highly talented emerging and mid-career artists.
